A California man ambushed and murdered his brother on the doorstep of his own Utah home before police killed him in a dramatic shooting that was recorded on a Ring Doorbell camera. Jeffrey Roberts, 66, killed his brother Scott Roberts, 65, from whom he was estranged, and also shot his sister-in-law, Jodi Roberts, before setting fire to his home. Law enforcement officials told DailyMail.com the shooting was related to a “family matter” but the full circumstances remain under investigation.

Roberts, who traveled 750 miles from his Long Beach home to confront his brother, then shot police who rushed to the address in a quiet North Ogden neighborhood before he was shot dead.

The Weber County District Attorney released a series of shocking images from both the Ring doorbell and police body camera showing the incident unfolding on April 27. Scott and Jodi’s daughter, Kelsey Turner, told a fundraiser for her mother that Jeffrey was estranged from Scott, but the reason for the horrific incident remains unclear.

The footage shows Roberts calmly walking up to his brother’s front door around 7:11 p.m. while Scott had dinner with his wife, Jodi Roberts. There is a brief exchange in which Roberts appears to say that he “came to see Mommy.” His brother says the person is not there and moments later, and without provocation, he pulls a gun from his hoodie pocket and fires a barrage of shots as he storms into the house.

A man’s voice can be heard screaming as the shooting occurs. Approximately two minutes later, the motion-sensitive doorbell camera is reactivated as Roberts leaves the property, returning shortly afterward with a shotgun and a duffel bag, later discovered by police to be filled with hundreds of ammunition.

The camera is activated again as the police arrive and a fire alarm can then be heard after Roberts started a fire inside the property. Bullet holes can be seen in the porch pillars. Roberts then ran off the property firing a handgun. The police respond with a barrage of shots that send Roberts falling face-first onto the porch, killing him instantly.

Body cam from the aftermath shows flames spreading inside the home, sending up plumes of black smoke that prevented officers from immediately entering to help Jodi Roberts. Houses across the street were also riddled with bullet holes after the shooting. Brandon Miles, the deputy chief criminal for the Weber County prosecutor’s office, said the shooting was related to a “family matter” that remains under investigation.

Investigators are also believed to be conducting investigations in California, where Roberts lived. It is currently unclear how Roberts obtained the weapons and ammunition. Miles said Jodi Roberts has now been released from the hospital, but the house is “uninhabitable” after the fire. No other suspects are being sought, he added. Turner’s GoFundMe had raised $37,214 as of Friday morning, more than triple his goal of $10,000.
