Charges on Jeremy Mercier

Restaurant employees were expecting a shipment of mugs and thought the box was full of them. To their surprise, when they opened it, they found a plastic bag that had what the employees believed to be a large amount of illegal drugs. They were right. Auburn police said more than $3 million worth of fentanyl was inside the box. This is worth about 14 kilos.

Officers and detectives caught Jeremy Mercier at the restaurant looking for the shipment an hour after it was delivered, authorities said. Mercier, 41, of Auburn, allegedly has no affiliation with the restaurant.

Police arrested him on multiple charges, including aggravated illegal importation of scheduled drugs, aggravated trafficking of scheduled drugs, and violation of probation.

Mercier has a prior federal conviction for distributing cocaine in August 2007. He served several years in prison, but was out on bail prior to the conviction.

“This is an active and ongoing investigation and we anticipate that our state and federal partners will join this investigation,” Auburn Assistant Principal Tim Cougle said in a news release. Mercier is being held in the Androscoggin County Jail without bond.Read More…….
