FLORIDA: Justin McCall, 28, was sentenced to 20 years in prison on a series of robbery charges he committed. The Florida man drew a lot of media attention when it was discovered that he shot himself in the leg during at least one of these robberies. He was found guilty on multiple counts in the ruling by retired Judge Paul A Rasmussen. In a press release on Monday, April 3, State Attorney Ginger Bowden Madden issued a statement: “In addition to stealing sundries from the vehicles he stole, McCall stole a firearm from an unsecured vehicle.”

She also said: “McCall then proceeded to steal another vehicle with the stolen firearm in his hand. While rummaging through that vehicle, McCall accidentally discharged the firearm and shot himself in the leg, prompting McCall to call for help from the same person whose vehicle he had just stolen.”

Charges on Justin McCall

The convict was charged with 13 separate counts in connection with multiple carjackings between late October and early January 2023, according to court documents. McCall committed suicide on Jan. 4, 2023, and was found by OCSO deputies with a gunshot wound to the leg, the sheriff’s office said. He was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, according to the Law & Crime report.

A subsequent investigation conducted in conjunction with the Crestview Police Department found that the defendant had been caught by multiple home video surveillance cameras breaking into vehicles in the area. McCall shot himself in the leg on January 4, 2023, and was transported by an OCSO officer to the nearest hospital for treatment. Later, during the investigation conducted by the Crestview Police Department, McCall was identified as having been recorded by many home surveillance videos breaking into vehicles in the area.

“A Zach Avenue homeowner says she discovered someone had gotten into his car and taken his bag. Later, while she was watching a neighbor’s surveillance video, she saw McCall in his white Sperry boots, who had been in the garage of his home, the OCSO said in a news release.
