Kamauri Butler is still wanted

The Texas A&M-Texarkana player, whose identity has not been released, was facing the University of Houston-Victoria when gunshots erupted, according to the New York Post. The Texarkana Texas Police Department said: “It appears he was hit by a stray bullet from an altercation in a nearby neighborhood west of the park. He was taken to St Michael’s Hospital where he underwent surgery and is reported to be in condition stable”. .”

Police named the suspects Kamauri Butler, 17, and Demarco Banks, 20, and issued felony warrants for Butler and Banks for aggravated assault and deadly conduct, respectively, as both had fled the scene. Though Butler, who turned himself in, has been booked into Bi-Sate jail while the manhunt for Kamauri is still going on. Three other people have been arrested in the case.

We initially received multiple calls of gunshots on Lynda Street, which is in a neighborhood just west of Spring Lake Park. Moments later, we received a 911 call that a baseball player in the park had collapsed and may have been shot,” police said. They added: “We were able to determine almost immediately that the two incidents were related, so some officers were on the ballfield rendering assistance to the victim, other officers were on Lynda Street looking for evidence or witnesses.”

Near the front yard of the house, the police found several bullet casings. Police determined that “an incident began as a riot there that resulted in two men shooting each other in front of the house. One of those errant rounds traveled about 400 yards and struck the innocent victim in the baseball field.”

The game was in the fifth inning when the shooting occurred, the Texarkana Gazette reported. “The announcer said: ‘Gunshots! Gunshots!'” a game attendee who asked not to be named told the newspaper. The game was later canceled and declared a “no contest” by the School.

Both Butler and Banks fled the area before police arrived, but when investigators acquired a search warrant for the home and several nearby vehicles, they were able to apprehend three other men who were there. Police booked Yankeengea Smith, 49, on unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and two counts of possession of methamphetamine and ecstasy pills; Nathan Moore, 19, for tampering with evidence and possession of marijuana, and Marcell Beaver, also 19, for possession of marijuana.Read More…….
