FLORIDA: A Florida woman was arrested after three dogs she owned brutally attacked a 63-year-old man to death. Kathleen Ann Taylor was arrested on Monday, May 1 and is facing second degree felony charges and one count of manslaughter: negligent homicide.

On February 24, 2023, Escambia County deputies responded to a 911 call about an unconscious adult male at a property in the 400 block of Norris Avenue around 10:00 PM. m., according to Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons. The man was walking in the area when he was attacked, Law and Crime reported.

In a statement announcing Taylor’s arrest on Monday, Simmons said: “A 63-year-old man was found with head and torso injuries. He was pronounced dead due to these injuries. The man lived in a trailer on the same property. … and it appears that three dogs attacked him and ultimately took his life. The owner of the property and the dogs is Kathleen Taylor, and she is in jail right now.”

The woman “was unable to adequately secure her home or her kennels, or any other enclosure designed to prevent her dogs from roaming freely,” Simmons said. She also claimed that Taylor failed to take any proper steps to board her animals, even though she had a history of trouble with Escambia County Animal Control officers, who fined her multiple times for letting her animals they roam freely.

Following the alleged attack on the victim, whose name has not been released, police officers said several neighbors who were chased by Taylor’s dogs filed complaints that the dogs posed a serious threat to their neighborhood.

“She doesn’t have the right housing and she obviously doesn’t have the right care for them,” said John Robinson, Escambia Animal Services Manager. According to the probable cause affidavit, when responding officers arrived on scene, the victim was found on the ground, lying “with both ears severed, along with her nose and left eye severed.” The 63-year-old man also had several bite marks on each of her arms.

“Kathleen Taylor, she chose to have a pet, she chose to take on that responsibility, and she failed in that responsibility, and now a man is dead. What a tragedy,” Simmons said. If Taylor, who currently remains in the Escambia County Jail, is convicted of the charges, she will be sentenced to 15 years behind bars, Law and Crime reported.Read More……
