Kaye Warrie, 52, has been charged for her part in the death of the man at Cheeditha Community near Roebourne.

Speaking to ABC after Ms Warrie’s court appearance, homicide squad detective sergeant major Michael Fogell said an incident at a home in the community on Saturday left the 49-year-old woman injured. .

The man was taken to Roebourne Hospital for treatment but died as a result of the injury.

More than a dozen people sat in the public gallery for Ms Warrie’s hearing at Karratha Magistrates Court on Monday.

One woman blew her a kiss and another yelled “we love you mom” as Ms Warrie sobbed in the docks before the hearing.

Police Prosecutor Sergeant Pippa Matthews did not oppose a bail request from Ms Warrie’s lawyer, Mickah Kickett, who appeared via video link.

Both parties agreed that there was no concern that Ms Warrie would offend or not appear in court again, but concerns had been raised about her safety.

Mr Kickett said Ms Warrie did not believe that being rescued at Cheeditha, where she cares for various family members, posed any risk to her safety, while the prosecutor said Ms Warrie was not a risk to community.

Sergeant Matthews told the court that detectives would meet with members of the Cheeditha community during the hearing on Monday morning to determine any risk to Ms Warrie.

“At the moment, they have no concerns. They would be more concerned if she was placed in Roebourne prison,” Sergeant Matthews told the court.

Judge Cillian Stockdale said the security concerns raised were not specific, but “more of a general concern”.

Mr Stockdale granted Ms Warrie bail on the condition that she report to Roebourne Police Station weekly.

She is due to face court again in February.
