Khia Shields Wiki – Khia Shields Biography

“They really took my baby,” a heartbroken mother wrote in a social media post after her teenage daughter, a college sophomore in the prime of her life, was shot to death in her home while she slept. Shareka Pitts completed her concise sentence of grief with two emojis expressing anguish: She had little else to post the day she learned of the sudden death of her 19-year-old daughter, Khia Shields.

The slain girl was a student at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, a small college town about an hour west of Savannah, where she began her second fall semester less than two weeks ago. The fatal shooting occurred in the early morning hours of Aug. 26, the Wrens Police Department wrote in a news release.

Shields had been shot in the chest at least once. Pitts recalled what happened at the family home immediately after the violence, in comments to Augusta-based ABC affiliate WJBF. “She comes into my room,” the distraught mother told the television station. “I’m up, looking… she’s looking at me, I’m looking at her. She had her hands out like, ‘Mommy, mommy, they shot me.'”

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputies and WPD officers arrived around 1:10 a.m. m. and attempted to take life-saving measures with the help of local firefighters, police said. The girl was rushed to a nearby Augusta University medical center, where she was pronounced dead. She was just a normal teenager,” Pitts told WJBF.

Khia Shields cause of death

Shields was working his way through college at a Walmart in Grovetown. Her friends created a memorial in honor of her former co-worker. Everyone loved her Khia,” her mother told Augusta-based MyNetworkTV and CBS affiliate WRDW. “She was just a warm person and she was just taken away from me. Never in a million years did I think I would be woken up by her saying that she had been shot, ever.”

Pitts grew up on the street where the shooting occurred in the small town of Wrens, about 30 miles south of Augusta. “It’s a very quiet neighborhood,” she said. “You know, I’ve been here for 41 years, so I’ve never had this problem.” Her daughter had just turned 19 days old when she was shot to death. She had dreams and a plan for the future. She wanted to be a teacher,” Pitts told WRDW. “The little kids always clung to her. For some reason, all the kids that she was with, and like her godson, even her cousins, she was just that person that they clung to, that they connected with.”

GoFundMe remembers Shields as “a pleasant and loving young queen with a very bright future in the education profession.” The funds will go toward unexpected funeral expenses and a reward for information about her killer, the fundraiser says. Pitts criticized the scourge of gun violence in several comments to local media outlets in the southeastern part of the Peach State. “I’m going to keep her name alive,” Pitts told WJBF. “I will continue to talk about her until we can find a solution to stop gun violence.”

“Put down the guns, put down the guns,” she told WRDW. “We have to come together as one and as a community and stop this gun violence because it is getting out of hand, especially in Jefferson County.” Law enforcement is largely empty-handed right now. The local police department and sheriff’s office turned the investigation over to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

“It appears to us that what is occurring is some type of gang-related violence,” GBI Special Agent in Charge Patrick Morgan told WJBF. “We are trying to get a handle on this and conduct a number of investigations going back a couple of months that we believe are related to the incidents that have taken place recently.” “Just a beautiful, high-spirited young woman who was taken from me too soon,” Shields’ mother plaintively recalled to WRDW. “We’ll miss you. She was my only daughter. “My only son.”Read More……
