Six-year-old Kinsley White was playing outside when the gunman arrived. The man shot him in the face and bullet fragments lodged in his cheek. She also shot her father, Jamie White, who ran to protect her.

“The man came running here. He shot my dad,” Kinsley said, speaking from outside her house as he held her grandfather’s hand. “He just finished wasting all the bullets on him. We don’t even know the man.”

The shooting was reported around 7:45 p.m. Tuesday near the 4800 block of April Drive, near Crowders Mountain. Police were still searching Wednesday morning for the gunman, whom they identified as 24-year-old Robert Louis Singletary.

Warrants have been issued for Singletary’s arrest on four counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill causing serious injury, and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon. Kinsley, a kindergartner at H.H. Beam, was taken to a hospital emergency room, but was later released. Hospital workers gave him an Almond Joy chocolate bar and treated his wound.

“They put me to sleep and took out the bullet (fragments),” he said. “Why did you shoot my dad and me?” she added. “You tried to shoot the father of a child.” Kinsley’s grandfather, Carl Hilderbrand, said he got out when he heard gunshots. He said he saw Singletary chasing Jamie White, who collapsed bleeding in the yard.

“I told everyone here to call 911,” Hilderbrand said. White remained hospitalized Wednesday morning. Hilderbrand said that he has liver damage. Kinsley’s mother, Ashley Hilderbrand, was also grazed by a bullet, wounding her elbow. She was resting at her house on Wednesday morning.

Carolyn Hilderbrand, Carl Hilderbrand’s wife, said Singletary moved into his neighborhood several weeks ago and there have been problems ever since. “This has been going on since he moved in there, cussing out the kids, driving them out of his yard,” she said. “I hope they catch him and I get what he deserves.”Read More…….
