Klent Elwoods and Lisa Jones Wiki – Klent Elwoods and Lisa Jones Biography

A 5-year-old Illinois girl died over the weekend in the Chicago metropolitan area and now her grandparents Klent Elwoods and Lisa Jones are in jail, police say

“It is with a heavy heart that we share in the death of Jada Moore,” reads a press release issued by the Park Forest Police Department. “The men and women of the Park Forest Police Department wish to extend their deepest condolences to Jada’s family and friends and mourn the tragic loss of this girl’s life.”

On Friday night, just before 11:00 p.m. m., a 911 call was made to dispatchers serving the small town south of Chicago, a planned community that has been an explicit part of suburban Windy City since after World War II. Park Forest police and paramedics were called to a home on Osage Street because of a 5-year-old girl who was “unresponsive,” the police department statement said.

And the indictments suggest that at least one aspect of the criminal case was fairly open and shut. Klent Elwoods, 62, is the girl’s grandfather and the person who called 911 that night. Elwoods allegedly “admitted to abusing” his granddaughter in that same emergency phone call, police said.

Upon his arrival, officers and paramedics “immediately performed CPR,” the PFPD said, and the boy was rushed to nearby Franciscan Health Olympia Fields Hospital. Ultimately, she was airlifted to Comer Children’s Hospital in Chicago. Moore, however, would succumb to various injuries from her around 9:00 AM. m. the next morning, police said.

Those injuries included “signs of recent physical abuse as well as older indicators,” according to the PFPD. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office determined on Sunday that her death was caused by multiple injuries inflicted during child abuse, according to the Chicago Tribune. Law&Crime contacted the medical examiner’s office for additional details on this story, but there was no immediate response.

Meanwhile, Elwoods was detained along with his wife, police said. The girl’s grandfather and grandmother, Lisa Jones, 57, would allegedly admit to “physically abusing Jada” during interviews with detectives, the PFPD said. On Saturday, the evidence against him was presented to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office. Elwoods and Jones are currently charged with one count each of first degree murder in the death of their grandson.

The duo were scheduled to appear in a Cook County courthouse on Monday for a bond hearing. Questions to the county clerk and state’s attorney about the status of that hearing were not immediately returned. Police have not said what type of abuse the girl suffered.

However, police told Law & Crime that after the girl’s death and the arrest of her grandparents, the house where the abuse occurred was left empty. “There was no one else living at the residence,” Park Forest Police Chief Brian Rzyski said in an email. “The birth mother lives out of state and details regarding the family outside of the home where this crime occurred are unknown.“Read More…….
