Lil Mama had to pay a huge price for her stint at the VMAs. Her fans made fun of her and she became the subject of brutal memes. “She Broke,” rapper Complex revealed in an interview. He also said that she had committed suicide at one point.

“It took a lot of mental, spiritual and physical power not to want to hurt others, not to want to hurt myself. A person could be almost suicidal,” the singer said. Furthermore, revealed that she also found it difficult to support herself in the music industry.

“A lot of people felt like they didn’t want to take a chance on me with specific things because it might have made Jay-Z or Alicia Keys not want to work with them,” she said.

The New Yorkers once took the stage simultaneously, but it wasn’t to collaborate. At the 2009 VMAs, Lil Mburst onto the stage while Keys and JAY-Z were performing.

The song they were playing at the time was their hit, Empire State of Mind, released that year. In a discussion with MTV News from 2009, revealed that she took the stage because she was emotionally shocked.
