Mackenzie Shirilla Wiki – Mackenzie Shirilla Biography

A judge ruled Monday that an Ohio teenager was serious when she crashed her car into a brick wall on a cul-de-sac while going 100 miles per hour, killing her boyfriend and another young man. “She had a mission and she executed it with precision,” Judge Nancy Margaret Russo said of defendant Mackenzie Shirilla, according to “The decision was death.”

The charges included murder, aggravated vehicular manslaughter, and criminal assault. Shirilla, then 17, drove her 2018 Toyota Camry in the early morning hours of July 31, 2022, after she, her boyfriend Dominic Russo (no relation to judge), 20, and another young man, Davion Flanagan, 19 years ago, he smoked marijuana at a friend’s house.

Charges on Mackenzie Shirilla

Surveillance video showed Shirilla slowly turned from Pearl Road to Alameda Drive, then sped down the three-quarter-mile street toward a brick wall. Russo and Flanagan died. Shirilla survived, trapped in the driver’s seat.

As defense attorney James McDonnell noted, it’s unclear what happened inside the vehicle when the crash happened around 5:30 a.m. m. He reportedly maintained that Cuyahoga County prosecutors were unable to prove that Shirilla crashed on purpose rather than simply losing control of the vehicle. However, surveillance footage was key. “The video clearly shows the defendant’s purpose and intent,” the judge said in the WKYC footage. “She chose a course of death and destruction that day.”

Whether Shirilla also intended to commit suicide is a matter of speculation and irrelevant to assessing the available evidence, Russo said. The judge ruled that the defendant, whose actions were “controlled, methodical, deliberate, intentional, and purposeful,” intended to kill the youths. Shirilla, now 19, covered her mouth and burst into tears upon hearing the verdict. She faces life in prison with the possibility of parole after 15 years at a sentencing that will take place on Monday, August 21.Read More…….
