According to court records, Menefield was indicted for failing to pay a garbage service bill that covered the months of June, July and August. She was charged with misdemeanor “failure to pay solid waste fees.”

After the officer explained the charges to the old woman, he handcuffed her.

“You should be ashamed of yourself arresting an 82-year-old,” Menefield told the officer as she began to hold his arms.

“My daughter takes care of that for me,” she said.

“She hasn’t been doing it,” the officer replied.

“She would definitely try to get in touch with her daughter if she were you,” the officer said later. “Because she screwed you on this one.”

Court records indicate that Menefield was arrested in 2006 for failing to pay a $206.54 garbage bill. The case was later dismissed “on compliance”.

After her arrest, Valley Police Chief Mark Reynolds said in a statement that officers needed to arrest her. The woman “was treated with respect by our officers in the performance of her duties and she was released on bail as prescribed for the violation,” Reynolds said.
