Carlos Lemont Jones Wiki – Carlos Lemont Jones Biography
A man has reportedly confessed to police that he shot his ex-girlfriend 15 times in the back because she refused to answer his phone calls and text messages since they broke up.
Carlos Lemont Jones, 23, also allegedly told police that if he had to do it again, he would have killed not only his ex-girlfriend, Sha’Dayla A. Johnson, 23, but also her father, according to an arrest affidavit reviewed by Law and Crime.
Police officers in Melbourne, Florida, said they were dispatched at 7:48 a.m. Tuesday. to the 2800 block of Colbert Circle. Johnson was found injured in a driveway.
“Sha’Dayla appeared to have multiple gunshot wounds concentrated on the back of her body, suggesting that she was shot as she was walking or running from the perpetrator,” police said.
Paramedics took her to a hospital, but she died. Witnesses said a black Nissan sedan with black wheels, similar to Jones’ car, was seen fleeing the scene after the shooting, according to the affidavit. Surveillance cameras recorded the vehicle.
Why Carlos Lemont Jones Shot Ex-Girlfriend 15 Times in the Back
Johnson’s father said he lived with his daughter in his house on Colbert Circle. He was lounging in her living room in her recliner Tuesday as she got ready for work. He walked out the front door to get to work at 8:00 a.m. m., according to the affidavit. The father heard shots and looked out the living room window.
He saw Jones, who had been dating Johnson for the past five months, standing behind Johnson’s vehicle and looking in the direction of the house. Jones’ car had been blocking Johnson’s in the driveway.
The father left his house to check, noted that Jones and his vehicle were missing, and found his daughter lying face down next to her vehicle in a pool of her own blood.
Johnson and Jones separated two weeks before the shooting after a heated argument, the father said. Jones allegedly didn’t let things slide. He kept calling and harassing her to get him to get back together, but Johnson refused to commit and instead ignored her calls and text messages, her father said.
Jones last tried to contact Johnson on the afternoon of December 19, the victim’s father said.
The defendant turned himself in to the Palm Bay Police Department later Tuesday morning, officers said.
“Palm Bay police said that when Carlos entered the lobby, he spontaneously said that he was facing 35 years in prison, but he did not explain why,” police said.
Melbourne detectives said Jones made a full confession to them during a subsequent video interview with Miranda. He allegedly said that he shot Johnson on purpose, was premeditated and used a semi-automatic pistol that he possessed.
According to police, Jones said he woke up angry the morning of the murder because Johnson was not returning his calls and text messages.
“Carlos said that it was at that very moment that he decided that he was going to shoot and kill Sha’Dayla,” the officers wrote.
Knowing that he had to work at 8:00 a.m. m., Jones drove to his house shortly after 7:30 a.m. m. to kill her. He blocked her vehicle parked in the driveway using her car, and found her as he was walking out the front door to go to work, the affidavit says.
The two apparently exchanged words, and as she was walking back to her house, he pointed his gun at her and shot her 15 times in the back.
“His estimate of her number of rounds fired was based on the fact that she only had 3 rounds left in her magazine after the shooting,” the officers said.
“Carlos said that he came in with a fully loaded magazine, and his pistol, including the magazine, had a total of 18 rounds. Carlos estimated that Sha’Dayla was about 8 feet from him when she shot him, and she collapsed on the garage floor in front of her vehicle after being shot.”
Jones allegedly said that he purchased the gun and ammunition about a week earlier, though he claimed that he initially obtained it for self-defense.
According to police, he said he changed his clothes in her apartment after the shooting and threw them in a dumpster, along with a box of 9mm ammunition. He then allegedly drove away, heading west on US 192 toward Interstate 95.
“As he entered the northbound ramp of Interstate 95, he discarded his pistol magazine with 3 rounds of 9mm ammunition out the passenger side window,” officers said. “Carlos then traveled to the Nagle Drive area of Rockledge and discarded his semi-automatic pistol in a storm drain.”
He allegedly marked the locations of the dumps on a map, put an “X” in the spot, and wrote that the gun was there.
Officers said they were able to find the clothing.
