FLORIDA: A Florida father has reportedly been arrested after his 4-year-old son accidentally killed himself on Thursday, March 7. Michael Bragg Jr was found unconscious with a gunshot wound between his eyes just before 10 a.m., according to a court document.

The little boy was immediately taken to the local hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after. Police said the shooting occurred at the boy’s home at 2117 The Oaks Boulevard in Kissimmee, Florida. Michael, or ‘Junior’ to his friends and family, was at the home with his father, 32-year-old Michael Bragg, and an unidentified witness, according to Wesh. The witness told officers they were asleep when they were awakened by a gunshot and found the wounded four-year-old boy near a wheelchair.

Michael’s heartbroken mother, Ebony Davis, said she had dropped off her son with her father the day before and she hoped to pick him up the next day. She claimed that she did not know that there were firearms in the house. Meanwhile, her sister, Cornecia Pinkins, said Junior’s father was irresponsible. Police arrested Michael Senior and charged him with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, Opoyi reported.

Officials said the father was arrested after he changed his record multiple times. Michael Sr. initially claimed there were no guns in the house, but later changed his story to say his friend kept guns there before finally confessing that he possessed firearms. According to a police affidavit, two firearms, a Glock .22 and a 9mm pistol, were found at his home recovered from a suitcase near the front facing down. Officers said they also found a large amount of blood and an “intact firearm” in the living room.

The family’s neighbors also expressed their shock after Michael’s death. “I was definitely in shock. This is a neighborhood where we have been here for a year and nothing has ever happened in this neighborhood,” said Euyenia Santiago, a neighbor, adding: “All my children are under 7 years old. Devastated family and friends of Michael Jr. held a candlelight and balloon vigil to honor his life.
