An Arizona family was devastated to discover their mother had lost her life in a hit-and-run accident just days before Christmas. Nichole Cortez was killed in a hit-and-run accident on the Loop 101 off-ramp on Monday, December 19 at Peoria Avenue. The responsible driver is still on the run.

“That’s what hurts the most. This person just walked out like a piece of trash,” said Anthony Cortez, the father of Nichole Cortez, according to WBTV.

“The car overheated. He tried to stop but couldn’t because the car was in the middle of the lane,” said Anthony Cortez. “She came out with the door open, and someone walked by and hit the other side that hit her. She flew about 50 feet”.

His father said he hired extra night shifts to pay for gifts for his five children. She “she was so stressed about getting Christmas presents for her children. We are all struggling a bit. So, she’s been trying to make extra money,” Anthony Cortez said.

Anthony Cortez said that his daughter adored her children and that she had recently gone shopping. “Gifts were found in her car. She loved her children. She was a single mother, trying to do what was best for her children.

She would do anything for anyone,” Anthony Cortez said. The car at the crash site Monday was described as a 2010-2014 Dodge Challenger with a damaged front end, according to authorities.

The heartbroken family now hopes the person will turn himself in and accept their punishment, saying that justice will help the family bring closure.

“I really want them to get caught. How someone can just hit someone on the side of the road and leave them is beyond me,” he said. “I hope and pray that she [Nichole] is not suffering on the side of the road.” The family has created a GoFundMe to help pay for funeral expenses.Read More…..
