Patrick Wojahn a Maryland mayor has resigned after being arrested on 56 counts of possession and distribution of child pornography. Before his resignation Thursday, Patrick Wojahn had served in his position as the city’s mayor since 2015 and on the city council since 2007.

In February, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children notified the department that a social media account operated by someone in the county possessed and distributed child pornography, the statement said.

Wojahn, 47, allegedly uploaded the extracted material in January this year, police say, prompting investigators to obtain a search warrant for his home in which they recovered several cell phones, a storage device, a tablet and a home computer. which led to his arrest Thursday morning.

Why did Patrick Wojahn resigned

The City of College Park issued a statement Thursday, announcing that Wojahn had resigned “last night, after business hours,” and that a special election will be held within the next 65 days when Mayor Pro Tem Denise Mitchell takes office. Wojahn has served as mayor since 2015 and has been on the city council since 2007.
