A teenager was shot and killed on his way home, according to authorities. The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. on Friday, January 13, and police suspected that it was “not a random act.” Rajon Lateef Jackson, III, a 17-year-old Waldorf resident, was the victim. According to a press release from the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a shooting around 2:30 p.m. m. Friday near Harvest Fish Place and Dorchester Circle.

When the victim was discovered, he had been shot. The sheriff’s office said deputies and EMS provided first aid to the victim who was transported to a hospital. Jackson died early Saturday morning from succumbing to his injuries. Investigators believe Jackson was walking back to his home and was in his neighborhood when the suspect shot him. They opined that it was probably not a random accident. The county sheriff’s office is viewing it as a homicide.

Earlier, the sheriff’s office tweeted: “Update on the Dorchester Circle shooting: Victim, 17-year-old male, is in critical condition. Detectives are following up on leads…” Hours after officials declared the victim was dead.

This does not appear to be a random act, the sheriff’s office said in the news release. Detectives are looking for leads and are asking anyone with information to call Detective Bringley at 301-609-6499.

Meanwhile, a man is found dead after a shooting in Temple Hills, Maryland, on Friday, police said, NBC Washington reported. The shooting occurred in the 2200 block of Afton Street around 11 p.m., Prince George’s County Police said. Officers found a man inside a car with gunshot wounds, who died at the scene.
