Wone reportedly visited his college friend Joseph Price’s house after completing his shift. Reports also suggest that Wone was stabbed multiple times within two hours of his arrival at a rowhouse on Swann Street, which is in the Logan Circle neighborhood of Washington, D.C. The townhouse was owned by Price and his domestic partner, Victor Zaborsky, and they were living there with Dylan Ward. The trio lived in a polyamorous relationship as a family.

During the 11 p.m. news, a family living fairly close by heard a scream coming from the row house. Police records show Zaborsky made a 9-1-1 call at 11:49 p.m. m. and the paramedics arrived five minutes later. Moments later, officers from the Metropolitan Police Department also arrived there to investigate the crime scene. A call was made to his wife and she rushed to George Washington University Hospital where Wone was pronounced dead at 12:24 am.

According to police affidavits, Wone was “sexually assaulted” prior to his murder and claimed the crime scene had been tampered with. Furthermore, the paramedics found the behavior of Price, Zaborsky, and Ward quite “unusual” because they were calm and none of them were yelling or helping the paramedics. During questioning, the three men denied having sex with Wone and said they had nothing to do with Wone’s death. Meanwhile, Wone’s family vehemently denied all allegations that he was gay or bisexual, stating that he was “straight and happily married.”
