A Kern County jury found a man guilty Wednesday of shooting and killing his girlfriend at least nine times, according to the Kern County district attorney’s office. Samuel Brown was found guilty of first degree murder in the death of Shavonna Wilson after shooting her in a motel parking lot. Law enforcement officers tracked down Brown the same day, but the defendant failed to stop and led police officers on a pursuit, according to a news release.

After police officers stopped Brown, they found a pound of methamphetamine in his car, he added in the news release.

Jurors also convicted Brown of assault in connection with an unrelated incident in which Brown trespassed on property in the Shafter and Wasco area and struck a 70-year-old man. The victim and a friend saw Brown driving a U-haul on the property and tried to block his path with a pickup truck, according to the news release.

That’s when Brown repeatedly punched the 70-year-old man, according to the news release. Jurors convicted Brown on charges of murder, drugs, weapons and attempted carjacking. Sentencing for him is set for June 23, where he faces 123 years in prison.Read More……
