A Forest Hill man was convicted Monday of sexually assaulting and providing alcohol to a minor. After an investigation by the Harford County Sheriff’s Office and a trial, Steven Friedman 40, was found guilty of second degree rape, third degree sexual offense, second degree assault and permitting the consumption of minors. Friedman lured a 16-year-old girl to her home, where he provided her with alcohol and sexually assaulted her on February 18, 2022, according to a news release from the Harford County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Judge Yolanda Curtin sent Friedman to the Harford County Detention Center after the trial in Harford County Circuit Court. He faces up to 20 years in prison. Sentencing will be scheduled after the completion of a pre-sentence investigation, the Harford County State’s Attorney’s Office said.

The victim testified during the trial that she regularly goes for walks and a man, identified as Friedman, approached her and told her that he had been watching her while she was walking and that he thought she was very attractive, according to the statement.

Steven Friedman convicted of sexually assaulting

Friedman invited the victim to his home and provided her with alcohol, according to the statement. While at the residence, Friedman searched under his clothing. The victim testified that she was too intoxicated to say no, and Friedman overcame her attempts to resist her and sexually assaulted her without her consent.

During the incident, Friedman’s family came home and Friedman interacted with them before escorting the victim out of the residence undetected, according to the statement. The victim retained video evidence of Friedman providing her with alcohol and confirming the sexual contact. Friedman was interviewed by members of the Harford County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division and admitted to providing alcohol to the victim and sexual contact, according to the statement.

Following the court’s verdict, Harford State’s Attorney Alison Healey said in the statement: “The conviction of Steven Friedman for this heinous and predatory crime brings closure to the victim of this case on a difficult chapter that no individual deserves, and especially no child”.
