Steven Michael Strahm Wiki – Steven Michael Strahm Biography

A 28-year-old Florida man will spend more than two decades behind bars after he admitted to brutally killing his 2-month-old daughter in 2020 by throwing the baby against a wall multiple times and then dropping her on his head. Circuit Judge Jeb Branham on Tuesday ordered Steven Michael Strahm to spend 23.5 years in a state penitentiary for the gruesome murder of young Scarlet Strahm, court records reviewed by Law&Crime show.

Strahm pleaded guilty last month to one count of second-degree murder and aggravated child abuse as part of a plea bargain negotiated with prosecutors at the state attorney’s office. In exchange for his guilty plea, prosecutors dropped a child neglect charge he faced.

According to court documents, on December 11, 2020, Scarlet was taken to the emergency room at the University of Florida Health hospital after her mother saw the baby having a seizure. After tests showed Scarlet suffered an internal brain hemorrhage, authorities say Strahm admitted to “accidentally leaving” her while her mother was at work. Scarlet was admitted to the facility’s intensive care unit for treatment.

Steven Michael Strahm accused of throwing son on wall

A Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) investigator prepared a narrative that was forwarded to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office for further investigation. On December 14, 2020, the case was assigned to the JSO Assault Special Unit.

A preliminary medical and risk assessment report prepared by the University of Florida Child Protection Team determined that Scarlet had suffered “abusive head trauma indicative of physical abuse” and a fractured knee that investigators said indicated physical abuse. It also showed signs of medical negligence.

Strahm was identified as the prime suspect in the abuse case and was taken to the JSO Police Memorial Building for questioning, where he allegedly confessed to inflicting injuries on his young daughter and was placed under arrest. The portion of the probable cause affidavit for Strahm’s arrest recounting his interview with police remains redacted, but Judge Branham provided a summary of Strahm’s confession in a 2021 court order.

“The charges stem from allegations that [Strahm]: (1) threw [Scarlet] against a wall four or five times between December 6, 2020 and December 9, 2020 with a great amount of force and (2 ) dropped [Scarlet ] on December 11, 2020, causing her to hit her head; (3) she did not seek medical attention because she was scared [deleted],” Branham wrote. “According to the probable cause affidavit, upon medical examination, the child sustained head injuries and seizures severe enough to cause anoxic injury to the left side of her brain.”

Anoxic brain injuries are caused by a complete lack of oxygen to her brain. After spending two weeks in hospice care, Scarlet was pronounced dead on the morning of January 3, 2021. A subsequent autopsy by the Duval County Medical Examiner’s Office determined the infant’s manner of death was a homicide caused by blunt force head trauma.

Strahm, who had initially been charged with aggravated child abuse, was later charged with Scarlet’s murder. Before sentencing was handed down, an attorney representing the family read a victim impact statement written by the baby’s mother, Breeana Kilzer, Jacksonville CW affiliate WJXT reported.

“You broke me. You took the best of me and broke me,” the statement read. “I never got to hear her laugh. I never got to see her crawl or hear her first words or see her take her first steps. She should have been two and a half and I’ll probably be the most amazing person right now, but I’ll never know.”Read More……
