A woman was raped by an investment banker she met on Bumble after she told him she didn’t have sex on a first date, a court heard. Varun Venaik, 31, kissed and intimately touched the woman with her consent before forcing herself into her £1 million apartment, she was told.
Australian Venaik denies raping the woman in his basement in Marylebone. Presenting evidence at Southwark Crown Court today, the alleged victim recounted how she had tried to push Venaik away during his “bludgeoning” attack. She added that she felt “scared and anxious” throughout the incident.

Venaik and his alleged victim met in a Marylebone bar before returning to his flat. She told Orla Daly, defending herself, that she had been “waiting” to meet Venaik. After arriving at her apartment, Venaik told his victim that she had to go, but then caught up with her at Baker Street station, where she agreed to spend more time with him.
It was the second time he was in his apartment that the alleged assault occurred. She said that at one point he pushed her head down. “He pushed my head down that night was forceful,” the woman said. “I remember saying I don’t have sex on a first date. I remember making it clear earlier that I didn’t want to have sex.
Describing the alleged attack, she said: “I was taking the weight off my body from him.” When she was asked if she had touched him intimately, she said: “I’m sure I didn’t touch his penis.” “I remember feeling very anxious and scared. He did not want to visibly show that he was scared and anxious.

She later sent a message to her friends to tell them what had happened. “I told them that something had happened and that I feel very uncomfortable.” The court heard that in a text message to a friend of hers she said: “I didn’t think rape looked like this.” Vaneik, of Upper Montagu Street, denies the rape.Read More……
