Wes Smith, a student at Texas Christian University, lost his life in a random fatal attack early Friday, September 1, outside Your Mom’s House bar in Fort Worth’s West 7th Ward, according to the Daily Mail. Matthew Purdy allegedly fired three shots at Smith, resulting in his death. Wes Smith, 21, was standing on Bledsoe Street when Mattew Purdy reportedly approached him and the two chatted for a few moments, according to FOX 4 KDFW. Purdy then pulled the gun from him and shot Smith twice, both in the stomach and shoulder. Purdy was arrested immediately after the crime and charged with murder, with bail set at $500,000. A spokesperson for Texas Christian University said, “We are devastated by the tragic death of one of our students, junior Wes Smith of Germantown, Tennessee,” according to FOX 4.
