Vaughn Cannon, a 41-year-old Cleveland County deputy, was arrested for allegedly shooting to death his wife, Jordan, 40, who was also a police officer, on Wednesday, August 30. Police said Cannon was taken into custody early in the morning after the incident at his residence on Brookstone Lake Drive. Body camera video captured the moment officers arrived at the bedroom door and found Cannon sobbing next to Jordan’s body, according to the Daily Mail.

Cannon reportedly shot Jordan early on the morning of August 30. They reportedly had a “heated argument” after 1am. As the argument escalated, Cannon allegedly shot his wife. According to the Oklahoma City Police Department, the incident occurred at approximately 2 a.m. Jordan was pronounced dead at the scene.

Vaughn Cannon shot and killed wife Jordan

Police then arrested Cannon without finding any other major problems. According to authorities, he has not yet been charged with murder. Cleveland County Sheriff Chris Amason reportedly said, “This is something no one can begin to prepare for, we ask for your thoughts and prayers as we navigate this devastating event. He added, “We are actively trying to mend and repair this void that is left in the Sheriff’s office and in our community.” According to the Oklahoma City Police Department, the couple had no history of domestic violence.

Amason stated: “The best way to honor her is to not let her death be in vain. And to remember that domestic violence cuts across all professions, socioeconomic lines, genders and races.” According to KOCO-TV and The Oklahoman, Cannon started as a school resource officer for the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office before moving to the patrol division. She later worked as a crisis intervention team instructor, according to PEOPLE.

Amason wrote on Facebook: “We are all heartbroken. Jordan was a ray of sunshine with a smile that could light up a room. She loved being a sheriff’s deputy and she had a heart for serving others.” Amason added, “This is a difficult time for everyone involved, but we will get through it together. I have called on our peer support group, our counselors and our chaplain to help our employees and community get through this difficult time.”

Okarche Police Chief Forrest R Smith also paid tribute to Jordan in a Facebook post. He added: “This heinous act not only deprives us of a dedicated and courageous public servant, but also shakes the very foundations of the community he served.” The post read: “We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Cleveland County Deputy Jordan Cannon, a brave deputy who was senselessly murdered last night.” Read More…….
