Police body camera footage captured the gruesome moments after a 12-year-old girl allegedly stabbed her nine-year-old brother Zander Lyda to death in their Oklahoma home. The brothers’ mother, April Lyda, told police she was sleeping upstairs when her daughter woke her up just before midnight to tell her that she had stabbed her brother, Zander.
The girl, who has not been named by police, is heard sobbing and apologizing repeatedly as officers arrived at the downtown Tulsa home on Jan. 5. The boy was rushed to the hospital and taken into surgery, but died of his injuries shortly after 2:30 a.m. ct. The edited video, obtained by The Law & Crime Network, begins with the girl running down the stairs as she screams: ‘I’m so sorry. Very sorry.’

As the police take the girl out of the house, Lyda appears in the doorway and says that the boy has stab wounds to her chest. “I’m so sorry, Mom,” the girl replies. I do not know what happened. The handcuffed girl then leads the police to the knife she allegedly used to stab her brother, which she had thrown out a window.

Once in the police car, the girl asks if she will go to jail while an officer tries to console her by telling her that it is too early to tell. “I ruined my life,” she says. I ruined my entire future. Everything is my fault.’ At one point, the girl appears to be praying, saying, ‘God, please help me. what the fuck Please. F*** please.
Still in the car, she asks: ‘Are the handcuffs necessary? I am a good boy. The officer tells her that she is given the nature of the incident. The footage is then passed to the police station, where an officer takes pictures of the girl’s arms and hands.
Later, Lyda is interviewed by the police and says that her daughter has never shown aggressive behavior in the past. “I just don’t understand why she would be so mad at him,” she says. Especially at bedtime. At the end of the video, as two officers talk, one says to the other, “You wonder what’s going through the mind of a 12-year-old boy.”
