A woman posed as a man so she could have sex with another woman, a court heard today. Blade Silvano is accused of using an unknown object to have ‘sexual intercourse’ during the relationship and even proposed marriage. The ‘sophisticated hoax’ involved her claiming to be an army officer, she sent photos of herself ‘shaving’ and never walked around naked.
The 40-year-old woman is said to have met her victim through an online dating site where she described herself as a man looking for a woman. Her alleged victim, whose name cannot be identified for legal reasons, only found out the true gender of her lover by chance on Facebook. She told police in an interview: ‘She denied me the right to consent. Every person has the right to know who they have sexual relations with and what they have them with.
‘I agreed to have sex with a man, not a woman. I did not consent to have sex with a woman who was penetrating me with something.’ The couple met through dating website Plenty of Fish, heard in Cambridge Crown Court, and Silvano, who reportedly used the name Blade Mendez, was approached by the whistleblower “because his image was a bit different than all the others”.

She told police: “It was a photo of Blade himself with a peculiar haircut and him pointing at his hair.” That’s what I found different from other people.’ Prosecutor Michael Hillman said they first met in December 2016 and kissed, before having sex at a later meeting.
They did not see each other for some time after that, as the defendant claimed that he “had been trampled by a cow” while on duty. Silvano had never been in the military, the jury was told. The defendant claimed to have been released from the hospital in February 2017, Hillman said, and the couple met again for sex.

They planned to marry in December of that year, but this was postponed when Silvano, from Lydham, Shropshire, allegedly said that he was suffering from an illness. It was not until September of the following year that the complainant synchronized his contacts for a new Facebook account and the defendant appeared with a “last name different from the one I know.”
In her interview with police, the woman added: “There was nothing unnatural at all. He was very fluid when he moved. He was not timid or timid. I didn’t feel like a woman next to me. Her partner’s chest “looked flat” and he “was walking around in his T-shirt and boxers.”
She added: “From all the conversations we had, to the pictures of him shaving and the stories of him, he always said he was a man.” During cross-examination yesterday, she denied being bisexual when they first met and refuted claims that she had willingly participated in a “fantasy”.

Deborah White, defending herself, said the couple had discussed marriage despite only meeting “a handful of times” and questioned why the complainant had sent photos of herself trying on a wedding dress “when it’s tradition for her to [someone else] don’t do it.” see him until the morning of the wedding. ‘The reason you sent the photo was because there was never going to be a wedding, right?’ she asked.
The woman replied that this was “incorrect”, and she added that the defendant had raised the subject of marriage with her. Hillman told the court that the alleged victim “obviously believed that she was communicating with a man” and Silvano “unfortunately engaged in a sophisticated deception.”
The defendant, who at the time ran a cafe in a Victorian town hall in Welshpool, Powys, where his wife Jan had a business selling gothic and witchcraft items, denies two counts of penetrative assault.
