“My ex-husband has a protection order on him. I don’t want to press charges. He is trying to leave the dog with me. The dog is sick and refuses to leave unless I take the dog to me. I need an officer to come and inform him that he is trespassing, and for an officer to take this dog away for him to take care of.”

Simonton’s ex-wife says he has been known to carry weapons, specifically a gun, and has made suicidal comments before.

Another 911 call is received from a resident of the apartment complex reporting Simonton’s threatening individuals and refusing to leave the property. “We have a gentleman here who needs to be removed from the property, he is known to have weapons. He is yelling at me right now,” the caller told the 911 dispatcher.

Body camera footage shows the first Ogden police officer arriving on the scene and immediately noticing that Simonton has a gun. “Do better! He just pulled out a weapon. Every unit has a weapon in his right hand!” The police officer is then heard yelling for Simonton to drop the gun. “He drops the gun! Drop it! Drop it!” Moments later, gunshots erupt and the officer is shot.

More police officers arrive on the scene. They rush to help his wounded colleague and stop Simonton from unleashing more shots. Eight officers in all fired their weapons during the shootout, ultimately killing Simonton, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Simonton had prior domestic violence convictions and two protection orders filed against him at the time of his death.

Investigators found a 45 colt revolver near Simonton’s body and say security footage showed him reloading the weapon. The wounded policeman underwent surgery at the hospital. He was released and is recovering. An investigation into shootings involving police is ongoing.Read More…….
