A 19-year-old woman has died after police say she was kidnapped by her ex-boyfriend at a Wingstop in Fayette County. Officers say the suspect led them on a chase that ended outside a high school in another county. Cameron Ja’Michael Hopkins, 20, is now in custody, according to the Fayetteville and Clayton County Police Departments.

Around 11 p.m. m. On Sunday, Fayetteville police responded to a kidnapping call at the Wingstop on North Glynn Street. 911 callers told police that a man, identified as Hopkins, entered the restaurant and took his ex-girlfriend at gunpoint. One of the callers said they left in a red Camaro, which officers later saw and began following. Police say Hopkins eventually got away from officers near Banks Road and the chase headed into Clayton County, where he stopped at Lovejoy High School.

Fayetteville police said their officers did a PIT maneuver to end the chase and heard multiple gunshots from inside the car. They said Hopkins also fired at the officers’ cars. Hopkins and the victim stayed inside the Camaro while officers took cover and commanded Hopkins to get out of the car. Deputies were able to fire an irritant at the Camaro from a safe distance and arrest Hopkins.

Officers and agents found the 19-year-old woman dead with multiple gunshot wounds. Her name has not been released. Hopkins will face charges of kidnapping and aggravated assault in Fayetteville. Clayton County Police will handle the investigation into the woman’s death.

Cameron Ja’Michael Hopkins killed girlfriend

A 20-year-old Georgia man is in custody accused of kidnapping her ex-girlfriend from her work and then killing her during a standoff with police in a Clayton County school parking lot Sunday night. Fayetteville Police Department officials told FOX 5 that around 11 p.m. On Sunday, officers received reports of a kidnapping at a Wingstop restaurant in the 700 block of Flynn Street.

Callers told 911 operators that a man had entered the restaurant and forced his 19-year-old ex-girlfriend at gunpoint to go with him. The victim was an employee of the restaurant. While driving to the scene, officers say they saw a red Chevrolet Camaro matching the description given by witnesses of the car the man and his victim were said to be in.

Police say the driver tried to flee, sparking a chase that ended at Lovejoy High School in Clayton County when officers used a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle. Now detained in the middle of the school’s driveway, the man fired at officers and their patrol cars, prompting them to take cover, investigators say.

During the standoff, police say the man fired multiple shots inside the Chevrolet, shooting and killing his abductee. When the police shot an irritant chemical at the vehicle, the suspect got out of the car and was taken into custody by police. The woman was found shot multiple times in the car and pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators identified the alleged kidnapper as 20-year-old Cameron Ja’Michael Hopkins of Albany. He is currently charged with kidnapping and aggravated assault by the Fayetteville Police Department and he is expected to face more charges in Clayton County.
