David Jasante Cunningham Wiki – David Jasante Cunningham Biography

The neighbor convicted of sexually assaulting and murdering a 23-year-old woman with Down syndrome inside the apartment where she lived alone has been sentenced to three life terms in prison. David Jasante Cunningham, 42, committed the inconceivable crimes of aggravated murder and two counts of objective sexual penetration in the December 2021 death of Melia Angelic Jones, according to a jury of the defendant’s partners on February 9. At Thursday’s sentencing, Cunningham was ordered to serve three life sentences.

Commonwealth lawyer Bryan Porter reacted to that ruling by saying that this “predator” will only be “free to ponder” the depths of his “vile” crimes for the rest of his days.

“Today, a predator has been held accountable for the willful and knowing sexual assault and murder of a precious human being. For the rest of his life, the defendant will be housed in a prison, free to reflect and tell about his vicious acts. He doesn’t deserve any better,” Porter said. “But I don’t want to focus on the defendant. Instead, I choose to focus on the wonderful and loving life that Melia Jones lived.”

“Melia will always be remembered for her laughter, her dancing and the happiness she brought to the lives of others,” said the senior prosecutor. NBC Washington reported that the day before she was murdered, Jones could be seen on video dancing while she waited for her food to be brought to her.

Charges on David Jasante Cunningham

Prosecutors said and jurors were convinced that Cunningham was watching her neighbor and followed her to her apartment, where she had recently begun living alone while she worked to support herself. There, she sexually assaulted and killed Jones before trying to make it appear the motive was robbery, prosecutors said.

Tragically, Jones’ father and stepmother were the ones who found her dead in her apartment on December 7, 2021. Her loved one was strangled to death and she had a plastic bag over her head. Her body was wrapped in a Hannah Montana blanket.

Taken together, authorities concluded that Jones was the victim of an “extremely violent murder.” The medical examiner ruled Jones’ death a homicide on Dec. 8, 2021, authorities said. Although Cunningham initially claimed that she only kissed Jones and later claimed that they engaged in consensual sexual activity, her DNA was found under the victim’s fingernails.

An obituary said Jones lived on South Van Dorn Street in Alexandria, Virginia, which is just off I-395 and minutes away from the Van Dorn Street subway station. Born in Puerto Rico, Jones graduated from Mount Vernon High School and the Pulley Career Center in Alexandria.

“While she was at Pulley Career Center, she worked at the Crystal City Marriott Hotel as a housekeeper and caterer. She was awarded Employee of the Month on two separate occasions. While working at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport as a Customer Service Representative, she earned the Perfect Attendance and Employee of the Month Award for Achievement and Exceeding Expectations. In the role of Kiosk Stocker (Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport), Melia received the Perfect Attendance Award during October 2019 and March 2020.”

Melia enjoyed dancing and singing with her favorite artists, including Michael Jackson, Big Time Rush, Elvis Presley, Arianna Grande, Justin Bieber, all gospel artists,” her obituary continued. “Melia deeply loved each member of her family and she greatly enjoyed gatherings with family, friends and classmates. She will always be remembered for her gentle and sweet spirit. She was baptized and a believer in Jesus Christ.” Cunningham reportedly did not apologize for the sentence and is considering an appeal.Read More……
