A Lakewood man was charged with murdering his girlfriend after police found her body during a welfare check at her home Tuesday, Ocean County District Attorney Bradley D. Billhimer announced Friday. John Filistovich, 59, has been charged with murder in connection with the death of Betty Perry, 60, of Lakewood, Billhimer said.

John Filistovich accused of killing GF

On May 30, around 12:15 p.m. m., Lakewood Township Police went to a home on Thornbury Court to conduct a wellness check on Perry, according to the news release. Officers entered her residence and found her, deceased, on the bedroom floor.

An investigation found that Filistovich and Perry were dating and living together, Billhimer said. Additionally, Perry’s 2015 Hyundai Elantra was not at the residence.

The same day police found Perry’s body, Maryland State Police found Filistovich on the side of the road near Salisbury, Maryland, in Perry’s car, the prosecutor said. He was taken to a local medical center in Salisbury and charged with theft in connection with the illegal theft of Perry’s vehicle.

On May 31, an autopsy was performed on Perry and her cause of death was determined to be blunt force injuries to the head, neck and chest, with asphyxiation and homicide, according to the news release.

On June 1, Filistovich was released from the Maryland Medical Center and taken into custody, according to Billhimer. He was transferred to the Wicomico County Correctional Center in Salisbury, Maryland and, upon his extradition to New Jersey, will be taken to the Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing.Read More……
