AUSTRALIA: After making a merciful run to bring her son’s body home, the distraught mother of a young bottle shop worker, who was fatally stabbed, claimed she had been spat on, abused and hit with a rock. Just before 9 a.m. Sunday night, Declan Laverty, 20, was about to complete his shift at Darwin’s Airport Tavern BWS self-service bottle shop when he was stabbed multiple times.

He sent text messages to both of his parents telling them how much he loved them, informing them that he had been stabbed before dying in the arms of a horrified bystander. Declan’s parents, Samara Laverty and Damien Crook, spoke about their tragic loss on Tuesday when his alleged assailant, Keith Kerinauia, 19, appeared in court for the first time.

In an effort to get the body of his son to Cairns in far north Queensland, Laverty rushed to Darwin on Monday. However, since then he has endured other painful blows. Within hours of landing in Darwin, Laverty claimed that she had been spat at in her tent, attacked with a rock and insulted.

Declan Laverty was stabbed to death

Laverty told NT News: “I can’t wait to get my poor son out of this hellhole.” She remembered his son as a bright, caring and talented young man who was an avid AFL player and loved his family, animals and his friends.
‘He will never fall in love. He will never marry

In February, Declan turned 20 years old. He would soon be visiting his mother, sister and pets in Cairns. “His incredible life of him where he was just beginning his journey will never be the same again,” Laverty said. She further expressed her grief for him, saying, “He will never fall in love. He will never marry. He will never be a father. His life, his future, our future have been completely stripped away.”

At the time, Declan was residing in Darwin with his father Damien Crook and still has his leftovers in the fridge. Before his son’s terribly short life was brutally cut short, Crook said the two were close friends and held back tears when he revealed his intentions to buy a house together. He said: “Everyone is hurt. I mean his mother, everyone is hurt, obviously not just me,” he reportedly told the ‘Today’ show.

He further added: “We had a brilliant relationship, a father relationship, but also a buddy relationship, you know. We were the best of friends, you know. We’d go buy a little unit together and he loved his music and he said ‘dad, I love you. I’ll take care of you, I’ll buy you a house and I’ll take care of you, as long as you cook for me every night.”

The charges against Kerinauia include one count of murder, one count of aggravated robbery and bail violation. Following Tuesday’s hearing at Darwin Local Court, Kerinauia will appear in court on April 13 on “an allegation of aggravated assault involving a bladed weapon,” NT News reported, as reported by DailyMail.

According to police, the 19-year-old was in a blue 2014 Toyota Camry when he arrived at the Jingili liquor store on Sunday night, just before closing time. Marty Aust, the crown prosecutor, has requested that Kerinauia’s other charges be added to the case, according to reports.Read More……
