Loved ones said there was no indication of marital strife leading up to the murder of a Minnesota mother at the hands of her husband, according to reports. On March 10, the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of two people Jennifer Yang and  her husband Fue Her dead in an Andover, Minnesota home, according to a news release.

The couple appeared to have suffered fatal gunshot wounds. Authorities identified the victim as Jennifer Yang. According to the statement, Jennifer, 36, was shot to death by Fue Her, before authorities say she used the same weapon to kill herself. Jennifer’s brother, David Yang, identified her, 40, as the victim’s husband.

“I didn’t see anything,” Yang told KSTP-TV. “She didn’t show any signs [of domestic violence] other than communicating with my parents sometimes about disagreements they may have had.” “To this day, I still don’t understand. I think she was just trying to protect us,” Yang said. According to the station, Yang blames the glorification of the patriarchy of her culture for the death of her sister. The couple were reportedly of Hmong descent.

“In the Hmong culture, men are the ones who make all the rules. With women, they feel like they have nowhere to go,” he continued. “They always say, ‘siab ntev netv,’ [which means] ‘have a big heart,'” Yang said. According to GoFundMe, the couple leaves behind three children, ages 2, 8 and 12.
