A doctor is reportedly facing attempted murder and child abuse charges for intentionally driving his Tesla car off a ‘Devil’s Side’ cliff in San Mateo County, California, and falling 250 to 300 feet along with his wife and two minor children. Rescue Operation and Legal Procedure

Following the incident, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) issued a statement explaining the rescue and other actions. It read: “On Monday, January 2, 2023, at approximately 10:50 a.m. m., Officers assigned to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) – San Francisco Area office were dispatched to a call of a vehicle over the bluff on SR-1, just south of the Tom Lantos Tunnels.

The statement explained that CHP staff worked with additional emergency personnel to first get the children to safety. Then they saved the adults. Patel and his wife were reportedly taken from the vehicle in a helicopter. The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection has posted a clip of the rescue operations on its official Twitter account.

“CHP investigators worked through the night interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence from the scene. Based on the evidence collected, investigators developed probable cause to believe this incident was an intentional act,” the statement said, before adding: “It has not been determined what drive mode the Tesla was in; however, that does not appear to be a contributing factor in this incident.

This is still an ongoing investigation and no further information is being released at this time.
