The husband of Epsom College principal Emma Pattison has died of a gunshot wound to the head, a UK inquest into his death has learned. George Pattison  39, is believed to have killed his wife and his daughter Lettie, 7, before killing himself. The bodies of all three were discovered in the early hours of February 5 at his home on the grounds of the prestigious private school in Surrey, south London.

On the opening day of the Surrey Coroner’s Court inquest on Tuesday, the audience was told that Dr Ashley Fegan-Earle carried out a post-mortem examination on her husband at East Surrey Hospital, the BBC reported. The examination was carried out three days after the shooting and the cause of death was described at the hearing as a “shotgun wound to the head”, The Times reported on Wednesday.

George Pattison killed family

He was identified from dental records, the outlet added. Coroner Simon Wickens opened the inquest with a statement in which he said: “I would like to offer my deepest condolences to George’s family at this difficult time.” Inquiries into the deaths of Emma Pattison and Lettie will be conducted separately.

Authorities were first alerted to the crime scene after Emma Pattison made a distraught phone call to a relative the night she was murdered. The police were then called to Epsom College at 1:10 a.m. where they found the bodies of the three family members, Surrey police said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE.

The deaths have shaken the tight-knit community. Pattison had only been principal at the elite private school since September 2022, according to her personal Twitter account. She was the first female head of the school, which was founded in 1855, the BBC confirmed. The family of Emma and Lettie Pattison paid tribute to their loved ones in a message shared on the Surrey Police website.

“To see the esteem in which everyone who knew her held Emma is a tremendous comfort. She was everything one could hope for from a daughter, sister, mother, wife, friend, teacher and so much more. We are a very close family. family and family were at the center of Emma and Lettie’s universe. The Epsom College community had become part of that universe for both of them,” the statement read.Read More….
