A Maine father drowned while trying to save his two daughters after they were washed into deep areas of a pond near the shoreline Saturday, authorities said. Henry Brooks, 46, of Hope, dove into the water when he watched his 12- and 13-year-old daughters being swept into deep water at Seven Tree Pond in Union, according to the Maine Watch Service.

Initially, one of Brooks’ daughters had fallen into a deeper part of the pond near its confluence with a local river. Then the other daughter tried to save her, but they both went into an even deeper area.

Brooks and his 27-year-old son jumped in to rescue them. Only the son grabbed a life jacket, according to the surveillance service. The son managed to save his sisters and take them to a nearby pier. But he couldn’t find his father when he looked back. Rangers and lifeguards searched the area on foot and by boat.

Three Maine Surveillance Service divers found his body around 7:30 p.m. Saturday. He was about 50 feet from shore, the watch service said. Authorities took their children to PenBay Medical Center in nearby Rockport, where they spent the night for observation.Read More……..
