JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI – The heartbroken family of Jaylen Lewis has alleged that details surrounding her fatal shooting by police are being kept under wraps. They have since taken to social media to demand more transparency. Jaylen, age twenty-five, was fatally shot in the head by a member of the Mississippi Capitol Police task force on the evening of September 25, 2022.

Authorities revealed that a female passenger was present in her car. when they killed him and she is believed to be the only witness besides the shooter. The sister of the deceased, Alexis Lewis, has revived public interest in the case by recounting what happened that fateful night in a TikTok video posted on Saturday, January 7.

Jaylen Lewis shot dead in his car by Mississippi Capitol Police

As reported by Revolt TV, Jaylen and the passenger were sitting at a red light when they noticed a white male pointing a gun at them. The 25-year-old reportedly called a friend to inform him of the sinister encounter. Dewayne Pickett, pastor of New Jerusalem Baptist Church, told WLBT-TV that he spoke to the woman who was in the car with Lewis.

“They didn’t know who he was because there were no blue lights, no identification. So, he actually called one of his friends because he didn’t know if someone was trying to get him or who he was,” he said. Moments later, he discharged a gun and the loving brother and friend was dead.

Multiple officers were placed on administrative leave just days after the incident, WLBT-TV reported. The investigations were opened by the Mississippi Department of Public Safety and Bureau of Investigation, who said they would provide updates to the state attorney general. The MBI said it was also investigating three non-fatal shootings on July 9, July 25 and August 14 of last year that involved the capitol unit.

Speaking of the force, Alexis said on TikTok: “In my opinion, the state capitol police are moving like a gang. That is their strategy and technique. So far they have only targeted black people. I don’t know how they are supposed to Citizens of Jackson, Mississippi must feel like they are protecting us when all they have really done is harm black people.”

The devastated sister also revealed that police turned over her brother’s car to her mother, Arkela Lewis, two weeks after the shooting with no visible damage other than Jaylen’s blood inside, according to Revolt TV.

The family also posted a follow-up video about the lack of transparency in the case. According to Arkela, the family was not provided with the police report of the incident. “We’re just waiting for answers,” she wailed to herself.

The heartbroken mother noted that the task force was originally intended to protect federal buildings, but it appears they have expanded their “jurisdiction to the more urban areas, the low-income areas.” The Clarion Ledger confirmed Arkela’s guess after recently reporting how the unit grew from 81 officers to 105 and began patrolling around Jackson State University and the University of Mississippi Medical Center, according to Revolt TV.Read More…..
