Oakland police said the attack occurred on the afternoon of February 6 in the parking lot of a Wells Fargo bank located less than a mile from her store, Angel Cakes, according to CBS News. Angel was pulling out of a parking space when a car blocked her, police said, according to the outlet. A man then approached her vehicle and jumped into it to grab her bag, before fleeing the scene in a hit-and-run car.

That’s when Angel decided to run after the robbers to get her bag back, but instead she got caught in her car door and was dragged more than 50 feet, NBC Bay Area reports, citing authorities. According to reports, she had sustained life-threatening injuries and slipped into a medically induced coma.

Angel was pronounced dead three days later. “Per Jen’s wishes, her organs will be donated and her committed medical team has informed the family that these organs will serve to lengthen and improve the lives of up to 70 people,” she read in the Facebook statement.

Angel founded Angel Cakes in 2008 and, according to a GoFundMe campaign, it will remain open, “with the support of Jen’s estate and the talented team Jen built.” Angel’s friend, Emily Harris, said she was devastated when she found out about Angel’s death. “Jen has been a great pillar of love and support, a person who unites so many people in Oakland,” she told KRON4.

As of February 10, no arrests had been made in connection with the case. In a statement, Angel’s family said that if someone is accused, they want to respect her beliefs about social justice. “As a long-time anarchist and social movement activist, Jen did not believe in state violence, prison punishment, or incarceration as an effective or just solution to societal violence and inequity,” the statement read.
