Police have named Kai McGingley the man who was shot dead by balaclava-clad assailants following a car chase in south-east London. Metropolitan Police and ambulance crews were called to Pembroke Road, Erith , at 8:50 p.m. m. Thursday after reports of gunshots.

Officers found 24-year-old Kai McGingley, from Southwark, with a gunshot wound a short distance away on Hillside. Despite attempts by the emergency services to save his life, he died shortly afterwards at the scene. Two vehicles are understood to have been involved in the incident and several balaclava-wearing assailants fired at the victim following a highway chase.

Kai McGingley cause of death

A murder investigation was launched led by Detective Chief Inspector Chris Wood, who said: “At this early stage I am very interested in hearing from anyone with information about the events that took place on Pembroke Road, and in particular anyone who have any knowledge of a silver Land Rover Freelander GL52 HDO that was abandoned by the suspects after the murder. “I believe another vehicle or vehicles, which we have not yet identified, were used to drive the suspects away from the scene. At least one of these vehicles is likely to show signs of frontal collision damage.

Debbie Burton, a grandmother and former schoolteacher who lives in Pembroke Road, said she was “shocked” and very concerned. “I didn’t hear the shots, but I saw the police arrive and I knew something was very wrong,” she told PA. “I had heard through the grapevine that something violent had happened, but I didn’t know until this morning that it had been confirmed as a shooting.

“It is sad and worrying. Nothing like this has ever happened in Erith as long as I’ve lived here, and I’ve been living on this street for 26 years. This is a very safe area. I have seen changes and petty crimes happen from time to time, as they do everywhere, but I have never seen anything of this nature. “This just goes to show how badly crime is getting out of control, and I worry about my children and grandchildren if things go as they are.”Read More……
