Joseph Ferlazzo is accused of murdering his wife and then returning to dismember her body with a handsaw while living in an Airbnb has been sentenced to pay $1.5 million to the woman’s family. Joseph Ferlazzo Jr., 42, is being held without bail after allegedly murdering his wife, Emily Schwarz Ferlazzo, 22, during her anniversary vacation.

Joseph is charged with first degree murder along with a civil wrongful death lawsuit. On Monday, January 16, a judge awarded more than $1.5 million in damages to Emily’s mother, Adrienne Bass, The U.S. Sun.

The couple was vacationing in Vermont when the tragedy struck in October 2021. Police said they were visiting an Airbnb home with its converted RV. According to later police findings, the murder allegedly took place in the mobile home in which the couple was vacationing. According to an affidavit obtained by InDepthNH.org, Joseph told police that during his argument, his wife had been kicking and punching him in the groin.

How did Joseph Ferlazzo killed Emily Schwarz Ferlazzo

The man told authorities that he waited five to 10 minutes after her wife fell asleep before taking her gun and ambushing her. According to Joseph, he was shot twice in the head. He then wrapped a garbage bag around his head and carried his body into the bathroom of the trailer.

Then, according to Joseph’s account to the police, he went to have breakfast with his sister and her boyfriend. He claimed to have returned to the trailer after breakfast to relocate it. Then, he told investigators, he used a handsaw to dismember his wife, separating her body parts and placing them in separate garbage bags.

Emily’s parents reported her missing when Joseph returned to New Hampshire alone. According to court records, Joseph later confessed to the murder, but pleaded not guilty in court. He was held civilly liable for Emily’s death in December. However, Joseph’s criminal case is still pending in Chittenden County Court, and he is due to appear in court again in the spring.

Following the judge’s ruling, Adrienne’s attorney, Robert Scharf, released the following statement.
