Keshan Darrel Allen accused of killing a baby

Fussell testified that on Friday, May 12, a 911 call was placed from Oakleaf Apartments at 10:24 AM. m. regarding an unresponsive child. APD and medical responders arrived on the scene within 10 minutes where they found the child unresponsive. The boy was taken to Athens Limestone Hospital where he died later that afternoon.

Allen had told officers that they placed the boy in the shower after using the bathroom in his pants. While he was going to get a new diaper, Allen claims to have heard what sounded like the child falling off. He later told officers that he found the boy unconscious in the bathtub and, not knowing proper CPR, he began to beat him in hopes of reviving him. The boy’s body was sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for autopsy. Death was ruled to be caused by blunt force trauma.

Fussell was present at the autopsy, describing seeing “a lot of blood in the abdominal cavity and obvious haemorrhage”. The boy also had a lacerated liver and his clavicle was broken. Fussell asked the examiner if the injuries could be caused by salvage measures and was told “absolutely not”. There was no bruising on the head that you would expect from a fall in the shower or tub.
