A heartbroken mother has opened up about her experience after her 1-year-old daughter was killed by her father. According to the Inglewood Police Department, 22-year-old Jayveyon Burley was taken into custody after officers recovered his dead daughter, Leilani, in the Los Angeles River under the Ocean Boulevard Bridge. At 11pm on Sunday, December 4, Burley’s mother, with whom he lives, called to report a person missing, and police were quick to show up at the residence.
According to Burley’s mother, she went to Long Beach to pick up her two children from his mother. However, when she returned to her Inglewood home, she only had one of the children with him. That same day, Inglewood and Long Beach police teamed up to locate Leilani’s body. According to Fox News, Lynisha Hull, the girl’s mother, claimed on Instagram that Burley would not tell her where the girl was. “Don’t worry about it, she’s fine,” she allegedly told Hull. Burley was arrested Monday, December 5, on suspicion of murder and child endangerment. He was later taken to the Inglewood Police Department Jail after his arrest.

The California father is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, December 7 on $215,000 bond. Lynisha Hull revealed to NBC Los Angeles that Jayveon had always been overprotective of his children and had never hurt any of them until now. Hull said her husband’s actions have left her shocked and confused. She also revealed to ABC7 on Tuesday, December 6, that the suspect usually picks up the children on Sunday nights and returns them on Wednesday. When Burley mentioned the children on Sunday, he said he was “mad” but said he was “normal” in other ways.

“It didn’t look like he had panicked at the time. My daughter was murdered by her father. He threw her off the bridge,” Hull commented. “My baby always lights up the room with her beautiful big eyes. She was so full of life. She loved music, books, she loved to dance, she loved to high five”.
