Svans, with no fixed address, appeared in Northampton Magistrate Court yesterday. He has been accused of kidnapping and rape. In court, he was taken into custody ahead of a plea hearing at Northampton Crown Court, due to take place on June 27 this year.

A homeless man has been arrested and charged with rape and kidnapping after a woman was attacked in a city center, police said. The woman was attacked on the morning of Friday May 12 in the Greyfriars area of Northampton.

After the incident, she sought refuge in a shop on Abington Street, where her staff supported her before the police arrived. Northampton police said Wednesday morning that a homeless man, Leon Svans, has been charged with two counts of rape and one count of kidnapping.
