A Texas man Matthew Edgar who has been on the run for nearly a year after being convicted of killing his girlfriend has been captured and is back in custody.

Edgar, was last seen in January as he walked out of the Sabine County courthouse on $50,000 bail during his trial when he was ultimately convicted and sentenced to 99 years in prison.

Supposedly, Edgar had threatened to harm himself and his family before disappearing. Many feared that Edgar had committed suicide or fled to Mexico in the past year.

The sheriff’s office received “a number of” reported sightings in the hours and days after Edgar went missing. Agents investigated several leads but were unable to locate him over the course of the year.


In August, Edgar was added to the Texas Department of Public Safety’s 10 Most Wanted Fugitives list. “We got one on the Texas Most Wanted list,” Sheriff Thomas Maddox told KFDM/Fox 4.

Maddox suggested that Edgar will not stay in Sabine County for long and will be transferred to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice after a hearing. Read More….
