Melissa Petez Wiki – Melissa Petez biography

Three Texas police officers have been charged with the murder of a 46-year-old woman Melissa Petez who was having a manic episode and cutting the wires to her apartment building’s fire alarm system. San Antonio Police Sergeant Alfred Flores, Officer Eleazar Alejandro, and Officer Nathaniel Villalobos were the three officers involved in the June 23 incident.

The woman, identified as Melissa Petez, was experiencing a mental health crisis around 2 a.m. Friday, authorities said. Body camera footage of her captured her screaming and at one point holding a hammer. The three officers are seen outside the woman’s apartment pointing their weapons in the direction of the front of the house before beginning to open fire, KWTX News reported.

At a news conference Friday, San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said the use of force was “unreasonable” and inconsistent with department policy. The chief said that he would not accept any questions after the conference because it is an ‘active investigation’. “It appears that Ms. Perez was having a mental health crisis,” the police chief said.

The officers who arrived at the scene first tried to help Perez and escort her to a patrol unit, but she ran back to her apartment and locked the door, escalating the situation. The officers tried to speak to her through an open window, but she threw a glass candle at one of the officers, the police chief said.

Two officers were seen jumping over the patio area as Perez held a hammer and swung it into the home in the direction where the officers were standing. The hammer ended up hitting and breaking one of the windows, but neither officer appeared to have been hit by the hammer. One of the officers responded by opening fire, but it does not appear that Pérez was hit by the round of bullets.

She then tried to go back out to where the officers were, hammer in hand, and that’s when the officers opened fire again and she was fatally struck by gunfire. After the confrontation, officers gave Perez first aid before paramedics arrived. She was pronounced deceased by doctors shortly after. The three officers were arrested and suspended without pay pending the outcome of the investigation.

Sergeant Flores is a 14-year veteran of the police force followed by Alejandro, who has been with the department for five years, and Villalobos for two years. The police chief said: “The actions of the firing officers were not consistent with SAPD policy and training.” McManus added: “They put themselves in a situation where they used deadly force, which was unreasonable under all the circumstances.”Read More……..
