Four people were fatally shot and four others wounded when a gunman wearing a ballistic vest opened fire in Philadelphia Monday night, according to a report. Four people were killed and four others injured, including two children ages 2 and 13, after a mass shooting in Philadelphia Monday night when a man wearing a ballistic vest and a person believed to have returned fire They were arrested. The victims were apparently random, with no immediately known connection between them and the shooter.

A brief security camera video shows the shooter simply walking down the street, shooting at people. The shootings took place on several city blocks in the southwestern neighborhood of Kingsessing. Responding officers pursued the suspect as he continued to fire, and he was arrested in an alley after surrendering, Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said at a news conference.

“Right now, all we know is that this person decided to leave their home and attack people,” Outlaw said. Officers were flagged down around 8:30 p.m., and multiple calls for shots came in from Kingsessing. Philadelphia police were dispatched to 56th Street and Chester Avenue, where they found several victims.

Police spokeswoman Jasmine Reilly told the network that six victims were taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center and two to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Outlaw told a news conference that all the victims were male, including the 2-year-old and the 13-year-old.

Three of the four people killed were men between the ages of 20 and 59, according to police, while the age of the fourth person is not yet available. The suspect was arrested in an alley without incident, Outlaw said.

He had a bulletproof vest, several magazines, an “AR type rifle,” a handgun and a police scanner, she added. A second person is also in custody after police believe he returned fire at the gunman. The police did not fire any shots.

At least two minors were among the victims of the shooting, police said. Their conditions were not immediately known. Four of the victims were rushed to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center and four other victims arrived at the same hospital in a private vehicle, the newspaper reported.

Eight people were shot in a southwest Philadelphia neighborhood, police said Monday night. One person is in custody and a weapon was recovered, police spokesman Miguel Torres told CNN. Six victims were taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center and two to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, police spokeswoman Jasmine Reilly told CNN.

Philadelphia police have not provided details on the conditions of those hospitalized. The shooting occurred in the 5700 block of Warrington Avenue in the Kingsessing neighborhood of Philadelphia, police said.

At least 339 mass shootings have occurred in the US so far this year, according to the Archive of Gun Violence. The file, like CNN, defines a mass shooting as one in which four or more people are shot, not including the shooter.
