Atlanta police are investigating the death of a man who was shot multiple times on the front porch of a home in southeast Atlanta on Friday. Authorities told FOX 5 that they received a call around 11 a.m. of a person shot in the 1100 block of Kipling Street SE near Moreland Avenue.

At the scene, they found the body of a man shot multiple times on the front porch of one of the houses in the area. The man’s family identified him as Rashone Gardner. His family says they are not sure how to break the news to his teenage daughter.

Neighbors say Gardner was well-known and well-liked in the neighborhood.

Rashone Gardner Killed in a shootout in southeast Atlanta

Investigators say it appears the shooting occurred during a dispute between two groups, one of which was part of the victim.

“There were two groups. Two or more on both sides. There was a large exchange of fire. We are still working to determine what led and when they fired and what they fired,” Atalnta police Lt. Germain Dearlove said.

Police called the shooting a “large exchange of fire” in which multiple possible weapons were used. FOX 5 cameras on the scene saw at least 40 casings in the area. A car being driven from the scene had countless bullet holes in its side. Dozens of evidence markers littered the scene, counting every spent shell.

Authorities say another victim has been taken to a local hospital. At this time, they are conscious and the police are preparing to question him to find out what caused the shooting. The identities of any of the victims have been released.

“Currently, at this time, we also have a person shot at the hospital. We’re working to get an interview with him as well to see what led up to the shooting incident that we have now,” Lt. Dearlove said.

Investigators say there was a second scene less than half a mile north on McDonough Street. Police believe that those involved in the shooting may have stopped there after the shooting.
