ILLINOIS: An Illinois wife reportedly found her husband’s mummified body eight months after he was reported missing. Richard Maedge  remains were found buried in a closet at his Troy home, which had been searched twice by authorities after his wife Jennifer reported him missing on April 27, 2022.

Jennifer discovered Richard’s body on December 11, while searching for Christmas decorations in a little-visited hidden storage spot inside a closet in her bedroom, according to the Daily Mail. Madison County Deputy Coroner Kelly Rogers released a report on Thursday March 2 in which it is stated that Richard had committed suicide. The report also noted that his body had become mummified after passing the decomposition stage. The police coroner told KTVI that the mummified remains do not emit odors, which may have kept Richard unnoticed for so long.

Richard Maedge’s body found by her wife

Authorities said Jennifer reported Richards missing after he unexpectedly disappeared after calling her to say he was leaving work early. The mother of three revealed that the smell lingered in her home for a long time until she contacted a plumber, who said she smelled like sewage gas. Jennifer said the stench had subsided when the plumber plugged one of the sewer lines at her residence.
