Police have identified a person Vickie Lynn Williams of interest in what authorities are describing as a “random” double homicide of an elderly Florida couple found dead on New Year’s Eve. Authorities released the name of Vickie Lynn Williams, 50, in connection with the deaths of Sharon Getman, 80, and Darryl Getman, 83.

Williams, whose name was previously withheld, has not been charged with killing them. The city of Mount Dora, Florida, revealed her identity in a news release published Wednesday.

Chatham County, Georgia, records show Williams was arrested Monday and detained out of state. Gibson said at a news conference Tuesday that this “person of interest” was only charged with stealing the Getmans’ car from their Mount Dora nursing home community, but authorities are working to obtain probable cause in the murder.

Chatham County records obtained by Law & Crime show Williams was arrested in 2012 and 2014 for traffic laws, including driving with a suspended or revoked license and driving without taillights. She was also arrested on April 9, 2022 for her extradition to Beaufort County.

Online court records in the name of Williams from Beaufort County, South Carolina, show a burglary case filed on November 21, 2016. The defendant in this case was first arrested on November 19, 2016, but the South Carolina records show a court order. him being treated years later on April 16, 2022.

Gibson previously said the “person of interest” had no known connection between Mount Dora and a very limited connection to anything in the Central Florida region.

“It seems like it was a random crime,” she told reporters at a news conference.

Gibson said it was the same woman who was kicked out of the Waterman Village senior community Friday afternoon and then tried to break into an apartment (not the Getmans’) later that night, allegedly stealing keys from a car and a mailbox. Authorities believe Williams was the person she was seen driving away in the Getmans’ car early Saturday morning, as captured on surveillance footage. Sharon and Darryl were found dead in her house that same afternoon. The cause of death remains under investigation, Gibson said.

“We are stunned, devastated and heartbroken by the horrific murder of our parents,” the couple’s children, Anthony and Brittany Getman, said in a statement released Wednesday. “If there are words to describe what has happened and its impact on our family and community, we haven’t found them.

Mom and Dad had been Mount Dora residents for over 20 years and really loved the area. They were enjoying their golden years by staying active and spending time with their many friends. We appreciate all the support we have received. It just shows how highly they thought of our parents.
