Authorities in Ventura County, California, found the body of a 22-year-old hiker who was reported missing last week. The body of 22-year-old Zachary Zernik was found in the Boney Mountain State Wilderness Thursday, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office said. His remains were found at the base of a cliff, and it appears that Zernik died from an accidental fall.

“It is with great sadness that we report that around 9:00 a.m. m., Zachary Zernik was located dead in Boney Mountain State Wilderness Park,” the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday. “Her death of him appears accidental. There is no evidence of crime or foul play.” Ventura police are currently awaiting a determination on the cause of death.

“The cause of death will be determined by the coroner’s office pending an autopsy. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones. Zernik was last seen Saturday morning by his family. He did not appear to work on Monday and was declared missing on Wednesday.

“It is with great sadness that we report that around 9:00 a.m. m., Zachary was found dead in the Boney Mountain State Wilderness park,” the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday. “His death appears accidental. There is no evidence of crime or foul play.”

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office identified the body found in the area where authorities were searching for Zachary Zernik, 22, of Ventura County as Zernik. The Ventura County Sheriff posted on Twitter that his body was identified around 1:45 p.m. Thursday.

Zernik was last seen by family members on Saturday, February 28 around 8 a.m., and was reported missing after he failed to show up for work Monday. His vehicle was located at the Wendy/Potrero Trailhead while search and rescue efforts were underway in the surrounding area.Read More……
