Brandon John Rainey Wiki – Brandon John Rainey Biography

A man charged with the murder of a 21-year-old who was missing for more than a week has been photographed. As grieving friends and family sat in the public gallery, Brandon John Rainey, 26, wearing a gray tracksuit, appeared via video link from police custody at Coleraine Magistrates Court sitting in Ballymena, speaking only to confirm that understood the single charge.

The unemployed Rainey, of James Street in Ballymena, is charged with Chloe’s murder on an unknown date between June 2-5 this year. On the heels of Rainey, charged with assisting a criminal after an alleged murder, was Ryan Johnston Gordon, 34, of Nursery Close, also from Ballymena.

It is alleged that the care attendant “knowing or believing” that Chloe had been murdered, withheld evidence in an attempt to prevent Rainey’s arrest or prosecution. Chloe was last seen on CCTV in the early hours of Saturday June 3 in Ballymena, Co Antrim town centre. Detectives investigating her disappearance launched a murder investigation yesterday after suspicious human remains were found.

In court today, Det. Inspector Foreman gave evidence that she believed she could connect both men to their respective charges. Rainey’s defense attorney, Neil Moore, told the court that while he was not requesting normal bail, the request was for Rainey to be referred to the secure psychiatric unit at the Shannon Clinic, having been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. .

He argued that Rainey should be detained there under the mental health order so that he can be psychiatrically evaluated, revealing that Rainey has been an inpatient at the facility before. However, DI Foreman said police had “concerns” about Rainey returning to the Shannon Clinic, as he had run away from there on three separate occasions. She argued that the psychiatric services and facilities at HMP Maghaberry could be used to identify any psychiatric problems Rainey may have.

Similarly, Gordon’s defense attorney, Stephen McNamara, noted that his client also had mental health issues that DI Foreman did not dispute. He said he was not applying for bail today because “there are still some checks to be done” before he can apply. Rejecting Mr Moore’s request for Rainey to be held at the Shannon Clinic, DJ King said the police’s objections “are well made”.

“It should be noted that three leaks have been reported from that facility… so I wouldn’t mind returning it to anywhere other than HMP Maghaberry,” the judge concluded. Both Rainey and Gordon have been remanded and although Rainey’s case has been adjourned until July 6, Gordon’s bail application will be heard on June 20.

“Our thoughts tonight are largely with Chloe’s family and we have specialist officers supporting them at this heartbreaking time. “I would like to thank the Ballymena community and search and rescue teams for their help in trying to find Chloe. ‘Two men, aged 26 and 34, remain in police custody assisting police with their investigations. It comes after days of searching for the missing woman, with the organization Community Search and Rescue having been assisting police in the operation. Ms Mitchell’s brother, Phillip, had urged anyone with information to contact the family.
